“that would have been a completely different life”

that a small change in the past creates possibilities.
a million tiny fractaling what if’s
the shape of which may have formed something
with all the same meaning and depth
but a completely different shape

my life has always been a meandering line
and when I found the shape of my desires
I realized I had grown to unfit it

We cannot unmake ourselves…
but we can still mold the future.
after all, a small change creates possibilities
a million tiny fractaling what if’s
the shape of which can form something.

sonnet – transience

What does it mean to begin and to end?
To ken the truth behind finality?
Perhaps to know is to better amend
and allow oneself certain clarity.

We measure our lives in the breadth of day
and from the drawing of first and last breath.
Or measure in moments near and away,
or within happiness, sadness, and wrath.

Regardless, time flows onward like a stream,
into the future, creating a past.
Remember that this will seem like a dream
and that nothing good or bad ever lasts.

Value the moment for what it can be.
Or plow through hardship and someday be free.

please

ask it of me

if you asked
i would freely give

every ounce
(heart, body, mind)
(soul, life)

i cannot do it
you have to be the one
that gives in
and asks

and if you did
you would find me
malleable

willing to belong
to only you

but you have to ask

personal polaris – National Haiku Day

April 17 is National Haiku Poetry day! I have already done one haiku, but it’s always fun to do another. For anyone that doesn’t know, haiku are Japanese in origin and are poems that follow a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Typically, a traditional haiku would be more nature focused, almost like a meditation and appreciation of the world around us, though that is not a requirement. It is also not necessary to rhyme as I do in mine, so long as you follow the 5-7-5 pattern.

i found in your eye
the brightest star in the sky
to plot my course by

moments

every day
you do some small thing that makes me smile
you don’t even know it
you go about your life completely oblivious
to how you brighten mine
and i will never speak it
but there are tiny bits of you
that make my soul sing
every day
